Kaley's Cast | Pi-chi's Cast |
---|---|
Tezuka | Yukimura |
Sanada | Oishi |
Yanagi | Kikumaru |
Inui | Kaidoh |
Akaya | Tamagawa |
Jackal | Marui |
Niou | Yagyuu |
Kawamura | Fuji |
Momoshiro | Echizen |
Room List:
1. Yukimura-Tezuka
2. Inui-Yanagi-Akaya-Kaidoh
3. Niou-Yagyuu-Fuji-Kawamura
4. Marui-Eiji-Momoshiro-Jackal
5. Sanada-Echizen-Oishi-Tamagawa
Seikai means "correct"
General schedule:
Day 1 - arrive, settle in, shenanigans, YukiTez co-op leadership
Days 2-4 - Seigaku-style training under Tez-Oishi (Rikkai: "That's it?")
Days 5-7 - Rikkai-style training under Yuki-Sana + doubles boot camp (Seigaku: /DEAD)
Days 8-12 - Kouhai captains training for being a captain, managing leadership, assigning training, and determining order for the matches
Days 13-14 - practice matches between two kouhai teams, winding down
Schedule Notes:
- Rikkai's training weights given to Seigaku for Days 5-7
- DOUBLES BOOTCAMP FOR SEIGAKU: GP is honorary Rikkais for this, Rikkai 2nd years demoted to Seigaku in exchange. Start off with Akaya/Kaidoh vs Tamagawa/Echizen then GP vs PP for contrast. How not to doubles. HOW TO DOUBLES.
- someone complains it's not fair to expect any of them to be able to play at the level of famous combos like those two pairs
- and then "Challenge accepted: Eiji/Jackal and Marui/Oishi will be the doubles pairs" (Imagine wonder castle with moon volley OW)
- For Kouhai practice days: in the spirit of all of this collaboration and teamwork, the schools have also been split so each team is half Seigaku and half Rikkai, with Yuki and Tez assigning them out so each one is more or less balanced. e.g. if one team gets the golden pair, the other team gets platinum pair
CR Ideas:
- Seigaku ??? at Tamagawa ALL THE INTRODUCTIONS
- Tezuka & Tamagawa, mentoring on how there's another way to lead from Yukimura's style and it's okay to have your own
- Sanada attempts no pillow fighting rule, is overruled by collective mutiny
- VC Commisseration, Oishi trying to figure out how Sanada commands so much respect (probably doesn't like what he sees)
- data & kouhai room to be a slightly awkward thing like dating single parents trying to get their kids to get along
- Sanada judging Seigaku, asking Oishi why he isn't taking any of Tezuka's responsibility to lessen his burden and actually Inui should step up too, since he's like a low-rent Renji
- diving into Tez's feelings: Tezuka had to wait for Nationals bc he was the only one on Big 3's level, could not do as quickly what Yukimura did with Rikkai. Fuji's lack of motivation not helping, Yamato's curse with telling Tezuka to be the pillar (do it alone)
- Marui, Jackal, & Taka-san in charge of cooking the meals
- Someone getting sick from eating wild berries or mushrooms
- Oishi being resident doctor for someone
- Niou and an accomplice troll Akaya about the need to perform an exorcism on him
- Sanada and Tezuka fishing together (someone discover the Oishi lure, please)
- General development of admiration/appreciation for opposite team's captain (read: Yukimura harem intensifies)
Shenanigans Go Here:
- pillow fights, duh
- ghost stories
- prank wars
- Marui and Momo team-up for fridge raid at midnight
- Akaya and Kaidoh losing sleep over ___ (Niou and Seigaku coconspirator as possible culprit)
- Yukimura sleepwalking
- Mouri & Yamato gatecrashing
- Atobe gatecrash, inserting himself into captains' room (Yukimura and Tezuka settle the results of their bet on how long it would take Atobe to do this)
- Illusion antics, Niou or Yags or both??
- Taka-san racket mode
- Niou and Kaidoh adopted by feral cat
- competition for who has the strongest heat tolerance in their food (Seigaku collectively backs away from Fuji)
Misc Character notes:
- It was Tezuka's rule that all rooms must be co-school so Rikkai can't clique
- Tamagawa to get mentorship helping him see
he's a Seigaku at heartthere are more ways to effectively lead than Yukimura's and Sanada's drill sergeant terrorism & it's ok to have his own style (that was actually why Yukimura agreed to his request to do this) - Yukimura's revenge against Seigaku is to be the merciless military leader he is for his portion of the captain demo and sit back and schadenfreude the other days where everyone else makes an attempt

It seemed miracle enough that Seigaku as a team had liked the idea. The true wonder was Tezuka himself agreeing to rejoin the team he'd led to this year's National Champions from his budding career as a professional. To help all of them one final time.
It's honestly overwhelming. Of course, he's going to help Seigaku. But simply knowing he found value enough in the invitation to make time for it, knowing that maybe, if there was a spare moment, Tamagawa might be able to learn more about his journey as a captain, and what he attributed their successes to...
The altitude has brought the temperature from nippy to chilly. Patches of snow speckle the mountaintop. It's pretty, really, and the cold will feel good once they're active. He does notice that the bus seems to be leaving them some distance from any cabin, but reasons that the terrain may not be suitable for it to travel the rest of the way. Yukimura doesn't look like anything is amiss in his eyes, so Tamagawa trusts that all is in order. They claim their belongings from the luggage bins and sort themselves into small groups. Tamagawa is slightly dismayed to realize it happened so organically for everyone else. He's the odd one out here, isn't he?
At least he is until Yukimura himself joins his side and speaks.
"Everyone," Rikkai's captain calls, effortlessly commanding the group's attention (how does he do that?). "Thank you for being here. The next two weeks are an unexpected treat as we wind down the school year. Seigaku has graciously agreed to join us in this endeavor to train, play our final matches together, and transition the clubs to next year's leaders. A special training menu has been put together for making the most of this experience; details will be available later. For now, it seems we have some backpacking to do before we reach the cabin."
"....Where's Inui?" One of the Seigaku players asked.
"Ahhhh! He's right, he's not here," said another, this one with red hair that flipped out at the ears.
"Inui is waiting at the top," Yukimura clarified, looking much too pleased that this absence had been noticed. "He's helping with our first training exercise."
The collective dread that seemed to ripple through Seigaku at that revelation was impressive, if confusing. What was this about?
Yukimura's pleasure and aura of polite mischief grew twice over as he smiled and added, "I suggest you make haste up the trail to the cabin," sending several of the players into a sudden, panicked dash uphill.

Yanagi is the first yellow jersey to begin his ascent, right in the middle of the pack of blue, and Niou, ever wary of a trick and watching him like a hawk as soon as a fear of Inui caught his attention, isn't far behind.
Sanada glances at Tezuka, unable to stop himself from speaking up, even though it's long since past relevance.
"I don't know why it isn't you motivating them."
"Just get up the mountain, Sanada," Tezuka warned, surprising him by immediately moving to outstrip his team.
But Tezuka remembered, too, Yukimura's stated purpose. He nudges the unfamiliar second-year's shoulder as he passes.
"Make sure you aren't the last one there," he said. The wide eyed look of him makes Tezuka wonder exactly what Yukimura was thinking, choosing a captain so unlike himself. But he knows Tamagawa won't have it easy later if Inui strips him of dignity now, especially in the face of Kirihara and his seniors.
no subject
"Yes!" He belatedly calls, and hefts his things to confirm they're secure on his back before racing to catch up. Yukimura has left him in the dust, along with most of the rest of the pack as he makes excellent time alongside Tezuka to join Yanagi at the head of the group. Wow.
The Seigaku that initially asked where this Inui guy was seems to be near the tail with Marui (who's curiously unburdened), Jackal (who's carrying over twice the load of the others), and Akaya. Tamagawa can't let himself be down at the end. He's supposed to be the next captain!
Finally, all that nervous energy has an outlet. He burns through it and pushes past the four in the back, chasing the backs of Yukimura and Tezuka with all his might.
They seem so far away.
no subject
Was Inui's absence expected, then? Maybe it was, and maybe it wasn't.
His voice rings innocence and confusion as he asks, "Where's Inui?"
It's like watching a line of dominoes topple after just one little nudge. Anxiety blooms from the collective good spirit of his teammates until the only one left with it is Yukimura. He looks pleased.
Fuji begins running with the rest of them, keeping pace at first but gradually slipping as the climb progresses until he's in Akaya's group. None of them look especially thrilled about the chore of running up the hill. Fuji, for his part, wears an expression of liberal delight and refreshment.
"How nostalgic! I've missed these races."
"Shut up, Fuji!" Eiji grouses loudly between heaves for breath from a bit ahead. "Don't encourage them...!"
It will be interesting to see Rikkai subjected to the infamous terrors of Inui's recipes.
no subject
"Don't listen to Fujiko-chan," Kawamura mutters, where probably only Tamagawa and Sanada can hear him.
Akaya breathes instead, turning a bit so he can look back at Jackal-senpai. This is gonna be a long haul, right? And Jackal-senpai's got the market cornered on stamina, no idea why Kaidoh's busy killing himself for later just because Momoshiro said 'boo!'
And with Fuji falling back like this, it makes sense. Akaya can respect the man who beat him, and he's one of Seigaku's best, and he's pacing himself too.
"Have you guys ever tried practicing tennis, Fuji-san?" he taunted.
He shows respect by teasing, of course.
no subject
"You should save your breath, Kirihara," Oishi warned from slightly ahead. "This is a race you absolutely don't want to be last in."
Kaidoh feels the pressure keenly as he dashes up the hill. Between his rivalry with Momoshiro and the threat of Inui's beverage monstrosities poised to make a most uncool, weak-looking fool out of the loser, it's more than worth flexing his stamina. Seeing how close he is to overtaking Momo-- and how much it pisses him off to be even slightly behind him-- propels him that extra couple of inches forward into a dead heat with him. He hisses through a glare at him, wordlessly communicating his refusal to lose. Not here, not ever.
no subject
Yanagi-san seems to have sensed something, though. Which Momo isn't surprised by. So that's one Rikkai who won't automatically fall into the last place.
He runs down the list, losing just enough speed for someone paying attention to notice.
Yanagi-san and Yukimura-san already know what's up, so they're not going to let Inui-senpai get them. Sanada-san will be trying to beat them and Tezuka-buchou, so he's not going to be led astray. Niou-san and Yagyuu-san are way too smart to not see through anything I try...
It was already falling into place, wasn't it? Momoshiro wanted as many people as possible after him. Preferably, also, Kaidoh would be one of them. But Fuji-senpai was the wild card. He might be willing to take the occasional shot for the team, but would he do it for Rikkai? He might not want to lessen the, um, effect for them.
Momo was a few lengths behind Rikkai's future captain. (He'd have to ask Marui-san his name later.) He looked like the easiest to trick, but he'd on his guard today. He'd be trying to impress Yukimura-san and Sanada-san. Focusing on them, and only them.
A quick glance behind showed Marui-san, Jackal-san, and Kirihara. Jackal-san was already pretty effective neutralized by Marui-san's luggage. There was no way he wasn't among the last over the finish line.
Getting into a mind game with Marui-san... Momo swallowed involuntarily. Not as scary as Niou, or so you'd think, if you hadn't already tried it.
But... there was Fuji-senpai, too, circling, smiling like a shark. He made the first play by alerting everyone to Inui-senpai's absence. If there was a way to get Fuji on his side without tipping off Marui, Fuji might be able to do the heavy lifting Momoshiro couldn't.
So that was it, then. He'd have to trap Kirihara at the end of the line, and do it transparently enough for Fuji-senpai to catch on and join in, but not so transparently that Marui-san and Jackal-san picked up on the strategy.
"You see right through Oishi-senpai's motivational attempts, don't you, Kirihara," he said, taking the risk of falling further behind Kaidoh. Also taking the risk that Kirihara was susceptible to flattery-- but he didn't have to be Inui to figure the percentage of that being true was high. If nothing else, it might be novel-- Sanada-san and Yanagi-san were more likely to express pride than praise.
"I guess senpai have to keep us going somehow."
He didn't want to risk playing for Fuji's help immediately, but he did think he was sweating more than just a run occasioned.

From this perspective, it was prudent to be conservative with stamina in the beginning. As with a marathon, slow and steady so there's still energy left at the end.
But what's Momo up to? Unusual to see him pass on one of Kaidoh's competitive glares. In favor of what? Fuji's curiosity is piqued, particularly as Momo seems to be focusing on engaging Kirihara. Of course, Oishi was warning the junior ace out of a genuine altruistic concern. Momo would know that as well as he did. Is he possibly downplaying the direness of the consequences?
How interesting.
"You're right. What do you think, Kirihara? Do you feel Seigaku's motivational approach working?"
no subject
A campfire's already been set up, with a dented tin coffee pot hanging over it, and a pot resting nearby. Renji cupped his hands around his mouth.
"Sadaharu!"
It took every inch of will Momo had not to flinch when he heard Yanagi-san call for his senpai.
Meanwhile, Kirihara's answer to Fuji's question is a hard no.
"What approach? Inui-san's not as scary as Sanada-fukubuchou. He'd have us doing laps up and down the trail."
no subject
Ever so slightly, Marui's brows furrow behind his bubble of gum while he runs.
Meanwhile, tantalizingly close to Tezuka's and Yukimura's positions, Tamagawa can feel his legs starting to burn from the sprint uphill. It was a completely different exercise from the standard laps across level ground, a sure sign of it being a good training idea. That's right, already the training had started.
The finish line looms in the distance. Even from this far, the rectangular glasses of a spiky-haired young man at the top gleam menacingly under the sunlight. He mustn't show weakness here. Not just for the sake of Rikkai's reputation (and its future's) but to earn the chance to be taken seriously by the Seigaku captains, and to save face for his own captains in their choice of him.
That's right: Marui's words from their doubles match echo through his mind, words made all the more poignant from the actions that embodied them. How hard he'd fought even playing two-on-one, relentless in his determination to do everything in his power to win. This, too, was a competition.
Can he truly spare nothing more from these legs?
With a yell tearing from his throat, he pushes against and through the pain in his legs.
"Oh?" Yukimura looks pleased as punch to see Tamagawa trying to overtake him. Pleased, and not the least intent on ceding the ground. "Do you think it's going to be that easy?" And pushes his own momentum further.
Focusing only on his thirst to beat Yukimura and Tezuka, Tamagawa closes the distance, and crosses the finish just shy of them. He could almost cry it's so frustrating, but he's too out of breath to even consider tears.
no subject
"I'm disappointed, Professor. You should already know."
Yanagi-san, shut up! Momo prayed. Or begged. They were far enough away that he could barely hear them -- they were talking about something else that he couldn't make out at all now -- but barely was easily enough to throw his malformed plan off-kilter.
"Right, my senpai always keep us on our toes, and Tezuka-buchou loves outdoorsy stuff like this," Momo said. "He probably has tons of plans for us to get to before dinner, let alone bed time. Mountain hikes are always just the beginning for us."
Jackal breathed deeply, and Momo could see him holding back a cough from the chilly air. A seed of regret was forming, because there was probably no way for Jackal to surpass his favorite kouhai.
But there was no way to survive Inui-senpai's juice, either.
no subject
Coupled with statements like "This is a race you absolutely don't want to be last in" and "Rikkai's vice-captain certainly leaves no ambiguity of the consequences," an implied point of contrast to Seigaku's methods, and knowing from experience that Momo was a trickster on par with Niou himself, all of the signals point one direction. Who is he to doubt them? Marui hated working harder than he had to, but it sounds like it's worth some extra effort here to not be last.
So once they're near the finish, he blows his gum bubble to a pop and cheeks it for better breathing as he takes off in a sprint ahead of Jackal and Akaya, eclipsing Momo and Fuji in seconds.
"Well, since Akaya isn't scared, I'll take on ahead!" He brightly announces, well on his way to the pack of Kaidoh, Oishi, and Yagyuu. "Show 'em Rikkai's toughness!"
He hears Fuji laugh appreciatively behind him.
no subject
Momo chases after him like there's a reason to do so, and hopes Fuji won't take it as a slight. He's entirely out of risks he can afford to take.
Akaya blinks. That was sudden, out of nowhere, and what else?
At the same time, Jackal can do the math and sighs as they jog into the camp, where Inui is, indeed, waiting with a kettle and a set of fine drinking glasses. The finish line is in sight.
Jackal drops his backpack, now that the walk back won't be too hard, musters enough arm strength to yank the back of Akaya's jersey up over his head, and pulls ahead and across. He loves his kouhai, but he isn't in this tennis club for his good humor.
Akaya sputters in rage, "Hey, wait!" and stumbles forward trying to get to the right place. "What was that for?"
no subject
"Akaya! Step it up," He calls, ignoring the visual obstacle just as Akaya himself should.
It's too late, of course. There's no way for him to escape the penalty at this point.
"Inui," he speaks, voice soft and chilly as snowfall, "In addition to the two glasses, make three shots please."
no subject
It's odd. He's never envied Rikkai's record. Endless, consecutive victories were never his goal. His eyes were fixed on the one prize, the one National Championship of his third year, but for the first time, he wonders if he could have done what Yukimura did.
Just as quickly, though, he knows he couldn't have. Because even Yukimura couldn't have done what Yukimura did, not without Sanada and Yanagi working in perfect concert with him. In hindsight, Tezuka can wonder, if he might have been able to push Oishi or Fuji or Inui... just a little further...
He lowers his eyes back to Inui's kettle. Yukimura is getting into his head again and they aren't even playing.
With Tezuka's endorsement, Inui needs nothing else, and does as asked, slowly smiling. Kawamura takes a step back, then another one, until he's actually hiding behind Fuji.
With barely repressed glee, Inui removes the coffee pot from the fire.
"Gentlemen of the tennis clubs, I present to you... Hot Koukou."
Wordlessly, Yanagi held up a tray with five clear drinking glasses. (He must have gotten the ones prepared for shots as soon as Yukimura spoke. That, or the Professor was more of a sadist than he let on.)
Into each, Inui poured a steaming greenish-purple mixture. Kawamura's nose wrinkled.
"I've made enough pickles..." he trailed off, thankful he was safe.
"It's indeed made with creamed pickles of onion, squash, plums, and a few other things I found around the house," he said. "I thought we'd want something hot around the fire, you see..."
no subject
"That doesn't look like cocoa," Marui remarked. It definitely didn't smell like it either.
"Right?" Eiji piped in. "How could you do cocoa wrong like that?! Inuiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii..."
Oishi battled fiercely with himself, warring much more than Tezuka on the seeming unfairness of the sudden change of the rules (which had never formally been stated but still... All of the Seigaku team knew what to expect here, or so they thought). It wasn't really his place to speak up with Tezuka in tacit support of Yukimura's modification. Momo, though...
"E...Excuse me. Yukimura-san."
"Hm? What is it?" Yukimura turned to Oishi, his tone indiscernible from innocent curiosity. "Did you want one, too?"
"Er-- no. Never mind." Oishi sheepishly backed down. Sorry, Momo!
"Well, whatever," Yukimura said, allowing Oishi to drop the matter. "Okay, who's first? Fuji and Akaya, you two have the full glasses as the last-placing members of each team. Jackal. Marui. Momoshiro. You three get the shots for slacking until the end. Don't think you can weasel out of giving your best on a technicality! Everyone understand?"
Marui grimaced and took another look at the shot glasses. He didn't dare backtalk Yukimura, but... he really wasn't looking forward to drinking that.
no subject
If he happened to look at Tezuka, surely it was a coincidence.
If he said, "Next time, maybe," before he went to examine the glasses, only Oishi heard him.
"Hope you have enough gum, Bunta," he drawled. He'll need it to get that taste out of his mouth. And Niou wants to see if Yukimura will forbid it, now that he's been reminded of it.
"W-wait a moment, Yukimura-san," Momoshiro said, raising his hand like he didn't want the teacher to call on him but had no choice. "How d'you know I wasn't giving my best? I maybe wasn't running as fast as I can, otherwise Kaidoh would be talkin' to you and not me, but I've been working on training more than just my legs, okay? Marui-san and Jackal-san, okay, I know I'm never going to beat them on physical strength, and I didn't, but I got into their heads once. That's what I was practicing on that hike, alongside my running."
A quick glance around the crowd and Jackal, at least, was listening to him.
"Th-that being said, what Yukimura-san says, goes," he added, and he forced himself to grasp the glass. "I'll drink first, if that's your ruling."
no subject
"Niou! That's..." Entirely too accurate a callout. Oishi sighed. "You're right." He had to pull himself together. He was one of the vice-captains here!
Marui answered Niou with a bubble blow in his face, not a trace of nervousness to be found.
Yukimura had to give credit to Momoshiro for having the balls to challenge him, however gently. He wasn't having it, of course, but it was a good reminder of Momoshiro's mental strength. This was, after all, the same middle schooler who pushed through a match against Oni while having wrist injuries in both hands. He had guts in spades; that deserved some respect.
"I see," Yukimura said shortly. "In that case, this should help you out. This is a good form of mental training as well."
It was a decent try, but Yukimura needed his message to be crystal clear so it didn't need repeating. Nipping any temptation to slack in the bud would help everyone get the most out of this camp.
no subject
The tension in Momo's shoulders snapped like a dry twig before a brushfire. He wasn't brave enough to actually laugh, but Yukimura-san wasn't wrong...
"I shoulda asked if you'd take your wrist weights off for all the good it did!"
The idea of playing up his reaction to discourage Rikkai and throw them off their game occurs to him, but really, this is Inui juice, and not just any Inui juice. This is Inui juice cooked up to show off to Yanagi-san. No acting will be necessary.
He raised the shot to Yukimura in a sly sort of toast, closed his eyes, opened his mouth, and tried to pour it down his throat without actually hitting his tongue.
"Inui-senpai, damn you, it burns!" he managed to squawk, before darkness claimed his sight and the ground claimed his head.
no subject
"Serves you right, moron," he heard Kaidoh mutter from somewhere behind him.
Briefly, Marui weighs his options. Drink. Try to avoid drinking. Both led to certain death. One ran a high chance of incurring additional wrath. Best get on with it. Lacing his hands behind his head, he walked over to the spread of drinks.
"Okay, down the hatch time! -- For Jackal."
no subject
"Ridiculous," Sanada muttered, crossing his arms, while Yanagi bent to examine Momo prone on the ground.
"From your bragging, I expected him to lose consciousness point two-six seconds sooner, Sadaharu... You need to start accounting for the fact that they're building up a resistance..."
"Hold up, resistance?!" Akaya exclaimed. "You're saying this'll be worse for us?"
no subject
"How about it? Is it working now?" He asks in a callback to his earlier question.
no subject
"Akaya, stop being disrespectful and get on with it," Sanada groused.
no subject
Pickled vegetables as the base. Inui overdid the acidity based on Momo's reaction. That's the foundation of the drink's terror.
The burning shouldn't be a problem. But he should avoid seconds and drink plenty of water later to rehydrate.
no subject
"Akaya, stop being a pest. Seiichi, Genichirou, and I are going to be annoyed if you delay this any further."
Jackal grimaced. He wasn't the one being nagged, but he also knew who had to set the example and who'd be blamed if the example wasn't good enough, so he quickly shotgunned his portion and grimaced harder.
His last conscious thought was that Inui hadn't said nearly enough about Fuji.
no subject
"Marui," Yukimura prompted, and there was no room for negotiation in the command. Marui grimaced again, voiced a noise of disgust as he took the drink, and moved over by Jackal's limp form so as to have something soft to land on as he collapsed with a choked-out "Mazu...!"
Sensing his moment, Fuji stepped forward and accepted his glass. The vinegar was certainly potent. He held his breath while drinking, allowing none of the fumes into his nasal passage. Even with that, and his usual high tolerance for intolerable heat, his eyes stung by the time he finished the glass. Truly a formidable drink; Inui wasn't messing around with practice penalties this trip. Fuji plastered a big smile across his face and let out a satisfied sigh.
"How refreshing! This cleared my sinuses beautifully."
"Your eyes are watering, Fuji-senpai."
...Count on Echizen to call him out like a punk. Without faltering, Fuji turned to look at Echizen and sounded his agreement.
"That's how you know it's effective."
no subject
"Akaya," came Sanada's growl and Akaya gulped. In the end, fukubuchou was scarier than Inui-san, and he gulped again, this time with the quickly-cooling drink in his mouth and had just enough time to gag.
no subject
"All right: those that remain, the cabin is just ahead. We'll--"
Whatever Yukimura said after that was lost to Fuji as his stomach twisted violently and his heart gave a dramatic thump. Suddenly everything was spinning and he felt very, very ill.
Without even the capacity to excuse himself, he covered his mouth and dashed for the closest bushes, making it just in time to spare everyone the sight of his stomach rejecting Inui's latest invention as quickly as it had been forced to greet it.
"Fuji...!" Oishi and Eiji cried in unison, and it wasn't clear whether Eiji's horror was out of concern for his friend or the dawning comprehension of just how scary this new drink had to be if even Fuji couldn't handle it.
no subject
"Need someone to hold your hair back?" Kawamura asked, soft enough for only Fuji to hear, paired with a hand to the shoulder.
Niou pounced then, sliding a pack of gum out of Marui's pocket and walking it to Fuji.
"This is going to be more fun than I anticipated," he admitted, eyes gleaming dangerously. "Only give it back when you're done. I want to hide it under Akaya's pillow... Puri."
Sanada, satisfied (and grudgingly impressed) that Fuji yet lived, turned back to the business at hand.
"Tamagawa, Kaidoh, Echizen! Get these carcasses into their beds."
"Now, hold on," Kawamura called over. "Sanada, I can do that. Just a moment."
"Your kouhai don't need to be babied anymore than mine do," Sanada countered.
no subject
The burn in his mouth and throat he could handle. The sting of humiliation, on the other hand... Fuji felt his strength returning purely on fury over his wounded pride, and a refusal to allow himself to look any weaker than he already did (never mind that he was already the only one to stay conscious through the drink). He would not allow himself to be a burden on the others.
He wiped his mouth on the back of his wrist and pushed himself back up to his feet.
"Thanks," he said to Niou as he accepted and pocketed the gum with no intention of chewing any-- at least not right now. He'd decide what to do with it later.
Tamagawa responded first to Sanada's orders with a squawked "Y-yes!", squatting just enough to scoop Marui off of Jackal (after relocating the bag to the ground beside them) into a bridal carry. Marui and Jackal had taught him so many things. He owed them both so much. He could only carry one of them, though. The least he could do was to do so with the utmost care.
Kaidoh's glare at Momoshiro could have burned through steel as he approached him. It took him a moment to school himself from the temptation to grab him up by the lapels and shake him through a barrage of yelling.
"You idiot. Look at the trouble you've caused." And he hefted Momoshiro over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. He'd never admit that there was never a question in his mind who he was going to carry back.
Echizen hesitated, seeing two problems with these instructions. "Um. There are two carcasses here."
"That last one is mine, Echizen." Fuji explained. "Right, Sanada-san?"
no subject
Yanagi, meanwhile, elbowed Inui.
"Put the notebook away before Fuji sees you," he hissed.
Kawamura looked again at the unconscious forms of Kirihara and Kuwahara.
"I can get at least one of them," he said.
"I'm not going to override Sanada," was all Tezuka had to say. That would come tomorrow.
no subject
But he understood Kawamura as well. He lacked confidence in his value to the team, and these acts of support were where he drew his sense of usefulness. He wanted to be helpful here, too.
"Taka-san?" He started as he knelt by Akaya and picked him up with a perhaps surprising level of care. "Maybe you can help carry the backpacks?" Sanada hadn't said anything about who had to carry those, after all.
