volleygeniusYukimura swings by his homeroom during lunch period to share the news: Nami and Aya have confirmed Flayn for the women's representative in mixed doubles. Turns out all those little indications were spot on—not that there was ever that much doubt. Yukimura might not be on Nami's list of advisors, but as a captain he understood how to think in terms of team welfare. Marui would always trust his assessment when it came to that.
With their combination now confirmed, they could start setting aside some of their standard practices for doubles work. Yukimura kindly offered to keep him as the reserve player in the districts so he could focus on that without jeopardizing the team's success. And first joint session today? Sounds fun!
Then the call happens.
It comes during last period, a summon over the intercom to visit the front office. When he arrives, there's a call on hold waiting for him. Mom.
He listens and reassures her it's fine, he'll manage. Don't worry about him. She... really doesn't need to apologize like that.
He makes a quick trip back to the classroom to collect his things and excuses himself. Then he stops by his cubby to put his school supplies away and waits at the front for his grandmother. By the time the final bell rings, the handoff is complete. His grandma is leaving for the hospital, and he's wrangling two rambunctious young brothers while wearing his two infant sisters and a massive diaper bag.
Their poor mom. Well, it sounded like all considered, it could have been a lot worse, but falling and breaking her dominant arm was definitely going to make things hard for her for a few weeks. He's going to have to figure out a way to juggle in some extra child care with his other responsibilities. Something'll work out. For now, he needs to get outside before the front lobby gets too crowded.
Well, as long as they're going outside, may as well head to the courts. He's got some explaining to do to Yukimura and Flayn, after all.
