You know, it just figured.
Maybe the bouncer at the haiku club tipped them off, maybe it was whoever snitched on them for putting up the stylish Appa posters, but someone was waiting for Sokka when he strolled down the street at unfortunate o'clock at night. Someone with long dark robes and rock gloves and a real disconcerting refusal to answer when Sokka yelled insults at him.
Luckily, the rock gloves were thin to begin with, and this guy was alone, so Sokka was able to chip away at the initial bonds trapping him with his boomerang.
Unluckily, right about the time Sokka got around to the running away bit, the Dai Li agent without a sense of humor found another Dai Li agent without a sense of humor (judging by his lack of reaction when Sokka demanded to know what rock he'd crawled out from under) and gave chase.
Back on the lucky side, the sound of rock whizzing through the air had become much, much more familiar now that Toph was around, and Sokka managed a few dodges. There were a few he didn't manage, and they left behind a few purple souvenirs on his arms. Maybe the sleeveless look wasn't quite the statement he needed it to be? Less "rugged manly" and more "look at me, I'm soft and squishy" than he'd realized, it looked like. Too late now.
There was a hard corner coming up and he had two seconds to decide, maybe lose them or maybe get trapped in a dead end? But the lights were bright straight ahead and if nothing else, he'd take the dark.
He turned into the alleyway, slammed right into something, and hoped it wasn't a person.
