If you assumed your case was progressively less likely to be solved the further along the clock ticked, then "after a rainfall" was double hard-mode. Youji hated hard-mode.

So, normally, he'd wait for the official investigators to finish their work, pump a couple sources, and then try to pick up what they might have missed, but not today. Today he was right there with them, observing and taking down notes, waving to people he knew, and hoping the underlings who were his sources didn't screw up their standing with Yuushi Honjou.

He sort of needed him to tell them things.

Nothing too damning. Things like their own anonymous sources or witnesses, or details they held back as a test, he never asked for those. But if Yuushi's team was pursuing one angle, then Youji was free to go off on any promising tangents.

It was a system, and it worked.
