Yanagi could, if needed, calculate exactly what Yukimura would do, say, etc. in this moment, but he'd already figured out that Genichirou did not need that from him.

Seiichi worked and planned for this moment, and the moments upcoming, for so long. His dream was on the verge of accomplishment, and he was entirely out of control. Helpless in the face of it, and relying on all of them to keep up the momentum he started.

It was possible. Yet he couldn't help the feeling of unease. The truth was that they were weaker without Seiichi. Triangles were strong; forces hitting any one vertex would be evenly distributed down the sides and stabilized by the base. Take away the third side and what were you left with? Two non-functioning lines. Baseless. Shapeless. Would the structure hold?

It must, and Genichirou had to be the one to take the base. Yanagi had briefly considered seeking a third regular to more evenly distribute what he knew would be coming, but they'd all formed their own geometrical and abstract structures. They must not compromise anywhere else.

Jackal delivered the registration forms and Yanagi sighed at the weight of the stack. He calculated it was heavier than last year's by about 2%. There had been a 5% growth in his second year compared to his first, and he wondered. Had people lost faith in them with Yukimura's absence? Or was the repeat of the prior year's successes simply not as interesting this time? More data would be needed.

He flipped through the pages idly. Did their order correspond at all with where their owners had filed into the court? He doubted it. He knew he was desperate for factors to plug into his equations, because the unknown loomed.

He was desperate for data, and he looked out over the new blood. He doubted any of them would be vital components of the data set, but his senpai doubted him once, too, and he was unwilling to miss a chance, any chance at all. He saw someone set down a tennis bag, and stored the fact for later. He would find his registration form at some point. He wasn't as brash as Akaya, but he was as confident as Seiichi. Interesting.

Someone would be approaching him soon. He cleared his throat and preempted them.

"'--Are we ready to begin?' you were going to say? You tell me first."
